Literature Text

Little building between the trees
Hidden behind conifers
They rustle against the brick
A tune that doesn't echo back

Wind whistles, the needles dance
The building remains stoic
There is no life there
Still, the needles beckon its call

If it knew how to speak
It would say nothing
Cold and unforgiving
It doesn't seek the joy of friends

The trees tilt their heads down
Saddened by the quiet brick
Their branches hang low
Until they finally touch the ground

Winter will return soon,
Some needles, they shall fall
Down to the sodden earth
Lying silently forever more
I have a two hour break between my classes. For most of the first hour, I took a walk around campus like I sometimes do to get rid of my seemingly endless supply of pent-up energy. Since my college is fairly small (you can get to one building to the next in 1-2 minutes), it's not a bad walk, but you end up looking at the same buildings and trees each time you circle around. So that's how I got this poem in my head. While that school lacks in buildings, it has many trees. ^^

There's also a hiking trail starting from one of the parking lots, which I've been on. At least some parts of Ohio are nice to look at. :D

It was hard to purposefully not make this rhyme. It comes much too naturally to me. |D
